Setup help
Setting up your computer and PVR can be one of the trickiest parts of this system, but we’ve tried to make it as simple as possible. If you’re using EPG Uploader, you must create an ini file for the TAP, and there will be a link on the computer settings page to help you do that. When you have your ini file, or if you’re using Jag’s EPG, choose the type of connection you have for your Toppy and click Next to start the Setup wizard.
EPG Uploader
EPG Uploader needs to be configured with an ini file, which must contain a line for each channel for which you want to be able to set recordings remotely. You can only have thirty channels in the ini file, so you may need to omit some. Note that if you already use EPG uploader for your EPG, you can use the same ini file, but the channel names in it must match the ones we use.
If you don’t use EPG Uploader, which is our recommended solution for Toppy Remote Control, don’t worry - as well as helping you create an ini file, if you use a Mac or Windows, we can automatically install it on your PVR for you; just choose the install option.
Connection to your Toppy
You can set timers manually, by downloading a timer file in your web browser, which is useful for testing the system, but for best results, you need to automate the system, leaving your PVR on a lot of the time, and setting up a computer to retrieve information about timers. At the moment, the setup wizard provides help with Linux, Macintosh and Windows systems. Click Next from the PC and PVR settings page to start it, and then read the instructions that it provides.
Downloading the scripts
The Setup wizard will provide you with customised scripts for your computer, which handle the retrieval of information from the web site and its transfer to your PVR. Follow the instructions on the page, and click the Download button to download the script. Some web browsers may not name the script files correctly; the wizard tells you what they should be called, and you should rename them if necessary.
Creating your own scripts
If you do not want to use our scripts, you can create your own; if you choose the Manual download option on the PC & PVR settings page, the wizard will show you a customised link that you can use. If the software you are using does not correctly name files, you should look at the example scripts for Linux, where you will see an alternative type of URL that can be used.
