SMS pricing

Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide this sort of service free of charge, and so we have to make a small charge to try and recover our costs. To be able to use this service, you will need a UK mobile phone, and all charges will appear on your mobile phone bill, via SMS reverse charging. Each message you send to us will be charged by your mobile network at the normal cost for sending a message to a UK number on your tarriff; it is the response from us that may generate an additional cost to you.

Initial cost

There is an initial cost of £1.50, for registering the mobile phone that you will use to send messages to the service. We require registration so that we can identify you from your mobile phone. When you have successfully registered, you will receive a confirmation text message, costing £1.50.

If, at any time, you change phones or mobile networks, you will need to re-register, and the registration fee will be charged again.

When you cancel registration, using the STOP command, we will send you a message confirming that your registration has been cancelled. We will not charge you for that confirmation message.

Ongoing costs

In addition to registration, the system will send you other messages from time to time, in response to commands that you send via text message. If we are unable to find a valid command in a message, if the password contained in it is wrong, if it is sent from an unregistered mobile phone, or it contains mistakes, such as an invalid channel name or number, no response will be sent from us, and so there will be no cost, other than the normal fee you pay your network for sending messages.

When a timer or a search is successfully created by text message, the system will record the information and send you a confirmation text with the details of the timer or search. These confirmation messages will be charged at 25 pence each, and you will receive them for each timer or search created by text message.

You can opt to receive confirmation messages either when we receive them (‘on receipt’), or when they have been retrieved for transfer to your PVR (‘on retrieval’), via the Timer & search settings page.

If you choose to receive confirmations on receipt, you will know that we have stored your request in the database. You will have to check the web site to see if the requests have been sent to your PVR.

If you choose to receive confirmations on retrieval, you will not know whether or not your request has been stored in the database, unless you sign in to the web site. You will be notified when the request has been retrieved by your computer to send to your PVR; this is the default option.

Note: If you have chosen to receive confirmations on retrieval, and you delete a timer or search request before it has been sent to your PVR, you will receive no confirmation for that item. If an item has been retrieved and you then mark it as not retrieved, or request that a timer be cancelled, you will receive another confirmation, as the message will be sent to your PVR again.

Remember, charges apply only to timers and searches that were originally created by SMS; web timers and searches are free of charge.

The SMS service is operated by Nigel Whitfield, PO Box 7248, London E5 8UL.
